A Tribute to Kathmandu, Nepal: Myth, Memories and Wishes

May 20, 2015

There is a place that has inspired dreamers, explorers and seekers for centuries. Kathmandu, Nepal has been synonymous with leaving the ordinary behind and escaping to a place of exotic sights and sounds, offering the promise of the unknown, peaceful reflection, the call to adventure and freedom to imagine that anything is possible. It is filled with beautiful, industrious and resilient people of timeless tradition and surrounded by the breathtaking magnificence of insurmountable Himalayas that gives visitors a sense they have left reality behind.

The mystique of Kathmandu, Nepal inspired our own “Legend of Katmandu”, the story of the powerful Red Jewel, Desirata that lay hidden in an icy cavern above Katmandu and was guarded by the mighty yeti, Boro the Great. Guests experience visual references to Kathmandu’s rich tapestry of incomparable natural wonder, timeless myth, monuments, palaces and unique art in our storied attractions throughout the resort. This includes the hotel entrance that was designed after a centuries old temple in Bhaktapur Durbar Square of Kathmandu that now exists only in memories and photographs.

On April 25, 2015 that temple was reduced to rubble. Thousands of lives were lost and many more lives affected in the devastating earthquake, the area’s worst disaster since 1934. The United Nations estimates at least 2 million people need tents, water, food and medicines. Recovery will take years and the work is just beginning.

Please join us in giving to the relief efforts in Nepal and sending wishes for recovery to its people. We are partnered with the UNICEF team on the ground in Kathmandu and surrounding areas. Your donation will be forwarded directly to UNICEF for use in caring for the basic needs of people whose lives have been turned upside down by this tragedy. You may either donate using the link below or donate at Katmandu Park where you will have an opportunity to customize a flag with your wish for the people of Nepal through our “Wishes in the Wind” relief campaign.

Thank you for your contribution and your support.  Together we can make a difference.
